Sian Gallagher

I am a qualified and experienced practitioner.  I currently run a private practice offering counselling/psychotherapy to adults.  I also provide clinical supervision to colleagues who work in the private, corporate, educational and the therapeutic charity sector. 

​

Alongside my practice I also work as a Clinical Services Manager for a counselling charity. In this role I support a team of clinical supervisors, counsellors and trainee therapists to deliver ethical and effective therapy.

​

My counselling career began in 1991 in the corporate world of British Airways.  I worked within the 24 hour crisis counselling service for the short and long haul multi-cultural cabin crew community.​  I was also a Member of a strategic development team who established a Working Parents Group within the cabin crew community, designing and delivering workshops in psycho education and setting up network support groups.

 

I have extensive experience in the NHS, Education, the Corporate Sector and also in private practice. My NHS experience has included working in specialised adult services in HIV and also in Renal Services.

I have worked in various schools for many years both state and an Independent Boarding School.  I also provide and deliver training for Peer Mentors to support individuals in schools or work places.

 

I have worked with individuals who experience; low self esteem, work placed stress, chronic ill health, disordered eating, parental separation, anger management, panic attacks/anxiety/stress, gender  and sexuality issues, relationship difficulties and depression. 

 

Specialist Areas of interest:

 

Work/life balance; Anxiety; chronic ill health; organisational/work place stress; AIDS/HIV; mild to moderate depression; physical disability; divorce/relationship issues; trauma; young adults; gender and identity issues.

 

Supporting supervises with their client work.  This includes trainee  or recently qualified counsellors or individuals who do not have English as their first language.

Clinical Supervisor

Supervision details:

I have been supervising Counsellors and Psychotherapists for more than 20 years in a variety of settings within the NHS, Education, Charitable Organisations and Private Practice. I have a good understanding of the needs of students in placement.  I bring a flexible and understanding approach to my supervisory relationships. 

​

I offer a relaxed and supportive environment for Counsellors and Psychotherapists to explore their work with clients which may include clinical challenges which we might find difficult to identify or to share.  I strive to create a warm and supportive professional relationship and environment, where collaboratively we ensure continued professional and personal development.

​

I use Proctor's three function interactive model as the core approach to my Supervision work. The Normative, Formative and Restorative (management, learning and support) elements of this model ensure that each supervision session meets your specific needs.  I  have a British Psychological Society Approved Certificate in Clinical Supervision, SDS Accreditation in Clinical Supervision Level 2 (Assessed Academic Competence) SDS Accreditation in Clinical Supervision.

I offer Clinical Supervision for individuals and small groups. Supervisor Collaboration is at the centre of my work whilst recognising  the importance of supervisor's role is understood ethically and also to ensure the Normative, Formative and Restorative needs we have are being met.
